Vila Real Bids Farewell to the FISU World University Orienteering Championship

The FISU World University Orienteering Championship came to a close last Saturday in Vila Real, following several days of competition that brought together student-athletes from across the globe. The Closing Ceremony marked the conclusion of the event with the presentation of medals to the winners of the various disciplines and was attended by representatives of university sport and the institutions that partnered in the organisation of the championship.

The ceremony featured addresses by Diogo Gomes, Vice-President of FADU Portugal, Mehmet Günay, Member of the FISU Executive Committee, José Manuel Vilaça, representing the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), and Eduarda Fernandes, President of the UTAD Students’ Union.

In their speeches, the speakers highlighted the organisational success of the championship, the importance of cooperation between the partner institutions, and the fundamental role of university sport in promoting excellence and international cooperation.

As the championship comes to an end, Vila Real bids farewell to a week defined by sporting excellence and international friendship. Beyond the outstanding performances, the FISU World University Orienteering Championship leaves a lasting legacy by strengthening the bonds between student-athletes from around the world and reaffirming the role of university sport as a bridge between nations and generations.
