FISU World University Orienteering Championship Welcomes Portugal’s Secretary of State for Sport

Portugal’s Secretary of State for Sport, Pedro Dias, visited the FISU World University Orienteering Championship on 31 July, reaffirming the Portuguese Government’s commitment to university sport and its continued support for the organisation of major international sporting events in Portugal.

Welcomed by the Local Organising Committee and representatives of the sport, Pedro Dias attended the Sprint Distance Final, where he had the opportunity to witness first-hand the outstanding level of competition displayed by the student-athletes.The Secretary of State’s visit highlights the growing recognition of university sport as a driving force for sporting development, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and the international positioning of Portugal as a leading destination for hosting major sporting events.

The FISU World University Orienteering Championship brought together elite student-athletes from across the globe in Vila Real, delivering a week of world-class competition and showcasing the highest standards of university sport.
