João Francisco appointed Secretary-General of the 2026 FISU WUC Orienteering in Vila Real

On December 16, FADU Portugal met with representatives of the Vila Real City Council at the Municipal Chambers, in a meeting dedicated to the presentation of the 2026 FISU World University Championship Orienteering project and the discussion of strategic and operational synergies for the organization of the event.
The meeting was attended by Alexandre Favaios, Mayor of Vila Real, Nuno Silva, Head of the Mayor’s Support Office, and David Pires, Head of the Sports and Youth Services of the municipality.
Representing FADU Portugal were Diogo Salgado Braz, President of FADU Portugal, Diogo Gomes, Vice-President, Diogo Lopes (Competitions Department – International), as well as João Francisco, Secretary-General for the WUC Orienteering.
Fernando Gonçalves, President of AAUTAD, was also present. During the meeting, the participants discussed the overall framework of the project and identified opportunities for institutional, logistical and promotional cooperation, considered essential to the successful delivery of an international university sporting event.
This meeting is part of FADU Portugal’s strategic approach to working closely with local authorities, aiming to establish solid foundations for the organization of major university sports events and to enhance their sporting, social and territorial impact.
